CARMEL, Ind., Sept. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Northeastern University-Charlotte, one of Orbis Education's academic partners, announced that the entire inaugural graduating class of the school's Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) on the first try. A passing score on the NCLEX-RN is required in order to practice as a Registered Nurse in the U.S.
"The immediate employment of our entire first ABSN class in Charlotte is further evidence of the market demand for registered nurses in the region as well as nationwide," said Mary Griffin, ABSN program director at Northeastern University-Charlotte. "The 100 percent pass rate on the licensure exam demonstrates that our accelerated program, for those with an existing bachelor's degree in a non-nursing discipline, teaches the critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed for a career in nursing."
All seven graduates received job offers before their May graduation and are starting their nursing careers in Charlotte as well as other North Carolina markets including Raleigh/Durham and Winston Salem. Some of the new Northeastern nurses will work at Atrium Health, one of the ABSN program's clinical partners, while others will work at Novant Health. Both organizations played an important role in providing the diverse patient care experiences the students needed to become practice-ready.
"As Charlotte's thriving healthcare sector continues to expand employment opportunities for clinically prepared nurses, Northeastern plans to grow the ABSN program and to further its goal of placing more nurses in the workforce to help balance supply and demand," said Dr. Cheryl Richards, CEO and Regional Dean of Northeastern University - Charlotte.
Northeastern University-Charlotte partnered with Orbis Education to launch the 16-month ABSN program in January 2017. The program is a hybrid version of the school's on-campus curriculum that extends its capability to deliver a high-quality, clinically intensive nursing education program. The program blends online learning, simulation labs featuring full-body, multi-function patient simulators within a fully equipped contemporary acute care environment, and in-hospital clinical rotations at top healthcare facilities in the area.
Northeastern University-Charlotte offers three ABSN program starts a year. In addition to the recent graduates, Northeastern currently has 49 other students at different stages of their ABSN education and is now accepting applications for the January and May 2019 starts.
