Opsview Issues Challenge To Open Source Competitors: "Prove You're Faster"
READING, England, Feb. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Opsview, the business service and IT infrastructure monitoring vendor, today issued a challenge to its open source competitors to prove that they are faster than the latest release of their free edition. The announcement comes after lab tests show Opsview Core users can experience up to 50% increase in data through put if they upgrade.
Opsview Core's impressive performance gains are due to the software's exclusive database enhancements and updates to its core engine. These improvements can substantially increase the speed at which users can reload Opsview Core after adding new devices or making changes to its configuration.
Ton Voon, Technical Architect said: "When modifying a running configuration, users have to restart Nagios-based monitoring systems to execute the changes. On larger systems, it's not unusual for users to see reload times measured in minutes. With this latest release of Opsview Core we've reduced reload times to just seconds."
Other improvements include a faster user interface, improved authentication and authorization processing, removal of multi-threading, latency reduction, disk I/O and CPU usage improvements, and enhanced plugin execution.
"Opsview's Nagios-based core engine has always been hungry for CPU because of the way it spawns new checks. The latest release of Opsview Core has seen a massive 60% drop in load averages on the master server and up to 90% on slave servers," said Voon.
"Our challenge is a bit of fun but we're very proud of this latest set of enhancements and want to see how they measure up against the competition. It's all about pushing the boundaries of what's possible with open source software," adds Voon.
