"We are proud to announce Operation Homefront has earned our seventh consecutive 4-star rating," said Ken Berger, President and Chief Executive Officer of Charity Navigator. "This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Operation Homefront from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust."
"The number of applications for emergency financial assistance from our military service members, wounded warriors and their families is higher than ever, tripling in volume this year alone," said Jim Knotts, President and CEO of Operation Homefront. "We're fortunate to work with such generous partners, individuals, corporations and foundations, as we respond to the current needs of our military families, while also laying a foundation for the vital services we'll continue to provide well after deployments to Afghanistan end in 2014."
Only two percent of the charities rated by Charity Navigator have received at least seven consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Operation Homefront outperforms most other charities in America. Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that the organization adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way.
In the nonprofit world, having 85 percent of total revenue going to programs is considered excellent. Operation Homefront exceeds those expectations with 95 percent of total donations going directly to serve military families.
