NEW YORK, Oct. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Opera Solutions (@OperaSolutions) was recently included in Gartner's Who's Who in Social Analytics"1 report profiling 17 leading organizations offering social analytics software and SaaS solutions that provide social filtering, sentiment analysis, and analysis of publicly available social media.

The research firm's report mentions two Opera Solutions products that utilize social analytics service: SignalSensor™ identifies and prioritizes security threats in the domains of national security, intelligence, defense, law-enforcement, and brand health monitoring. Signal Hubs™ use machine learning techniques to extract and identify patterns in social media and other Big Data. Both solutions turn unstructured data flows into structured predictive Signals through the use of natural language processing and sentiment extraction.
Threat Detection and National Security
Of the 17 vendors cited, only Opera Solutions offers a tool specifically tailored for threat detection. "SignalSensor continually sorts through the world's flow of publicly available unstructured data to extract potentially threatening correspondence and posts," said Scott Weber, head of Opera Solutions Government Services. "This frees intelligence analysts and security professionals to focus on interpretation and analysis of those extracts rather than having to sift through terabytes of data themselves."
SignalSensor also has the real-time capability to find and geo-locate threats on social media sites, such as Twitter. For example, it can be set to monitor a particular geographic area and send an immediate alert if there is a sudden spurt of alarming tweets such as "shooter," "shots fired," or "gun shots." It also allows real-time two-way communication between tweeters and law enforcement officers, giving law enforcement real-time intelligence to help keep more people safe and aid their efforts to contain the situation.
