OpenPeak's New SECTOR™ Mobile Device Application Separates Work/Personal Profiles for Added Security in Bring-Your-Own Device Environments
SECTOR Adds Separate Work and Personal Profile Management while Leveraging OPENSHOP™ Enterprise Store for Application Wrapping on iOS and Android Devices
BOCA RATON, Fla. and CES, LAS VEGAS, Jan. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile device management (MDM) platform provider OpenPeak Inc. today announced the debut of its new SECTOR™ mobile workspace management application aimed at helping organizations provide and enforce comprehensive application authorization, authentication, accounting and usage policies, as well control how applications interact with corporate networks in bring-your-own-device environments. OpenPeak will showcase the new tool throughout the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that runs through January 13 in Las Vegas.
Compatible with both iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, SECTOR can be deployed as a stand-alone work/personal Personal Information Management (PIM) container solution or in conjunction with OpenPeak's SANCTION™ device management platform to provide the only end-to-end device and application management solution on the market. Combined with the company's OPENSHOP white label app shop, any size company can use SECTOR to fully manage corporate applications on bring-your-own devices, enforce policies, provide secure storage and networking, and monitor application usage while offering the business/productivity apps users need for work in a safe environment, and still afford them free and unfettered personal use of the device on their own time.
"Personal smartphones, iPads and other tablet devices are migrating into the workplace at an unprecedented rate, which leaves IT managers with a real challenge: they know employees are going to use their personal devices for work, and there are tangible advantages to doing so—but there are also significant risks," said OpenPeak CEO Dan Gittleman. For example, citing a study by Jupiter Networks, PCMagazine recently reported that malware in the Android Market surged 472 percent since July 2010, with the bulk of the threats coming from spyware aimed at communications, geo-location data and text message Trojans.
"Whether it's ensuring that malicious apps cannot access corporate data or merely keeping personal usage of a device separate from one's professional life, SECTOR offers a way to have the best of both worlds with secure profile management to segregate work and personal environments on the same device." said Gittleman.
With its secure container and PIM software for Android, SECTOR presents a users' work profile as a virtual workspace—a device-within-the-device—that can be controlled and secured by corporate IT, allowing the user access to approved applications and encrypted enterprise data only when logged in through the work profile.
When bundled with OpenPeak's SANCTION for total mobile device management, SECTOR provides policy management support for administrator settings, including VPN, Wi-Fi access, roaming and geo-fencing. As a part of the OpenPeak ADAM™ advanced device and application management system, SECTOR reports detailed usage data to the ADAM analytics engine and enables push notifications across workspaces—employees can even receive enterprise notifications on the personal workspace, with the contents of the messages concealed for privacy.
With OPENSHOP integration, applications running within the virtual workspace are "wrapped" to ensure they enforce authentication, abide by configured policies, encrypt file data for secure storage, and access the network according to the established policy. This prevents malicious applications running in the personal workspace from accessing enterprise data. No code modification or intervention by the application developer is required for this wrapping: the process is completely automated. Unlike other solutions, SECTOR does not require applications to be compiled into a single container application, allowing for a highly dynamic and flexible environment.
The OpenPeak ADAM web-based management portal makes it easy for the entire system to be managed remotely from anywhere, including the ability to push and revoke apps and provision blacklists and whitelists on demand. Individual apps or the entire workspace can be locked out by configurable policy, geo-fencing or during specific times.
In addition to seamless integration with all of OpenPeak's ADAM platform services, including OPENSHOP and SANCTION mobile device management, SECTOR also integrates with existing legacy platforms to provide user profile management on any iOS or Android device to augment existing device management solutions.
