ONE World Sports Debuts A Bridge to Cuba On November 7th
Documentary Chronicles New York Cosmos Historic Trip
STAMFORD, Conn., Nov. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ONE World Sports, America's Network for Global Sports, and the broadcast home of the New York Cosmos, will premiere A Bridge to Cuba, a documentary recapping the historic journey of the New York Cosmos trip to Havana, a trip that transcended a sports competition and unified two nations through the commonality of sport.
A Bridge to Cuba will debut on Saturday, November 7th, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern, immediately following the live North American Soccer League (NASL) Championship Semifinal match pitting the Cosmos against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Both the game and the documentary will be available via an open live-stream on ONEWorldSports.com.
ONE World Sports accompanied the Cosmos to Havana in June to telecast a friendly match against the Cuban National Team. The Cosmos' trip marked the first visit of a U.S. professional sports team to Cuban soil since the U.S. lifted its embargo in December 2014, cementing a role for the Cosmos as global ambassadors of soccer. Shortly after the match, U.S.-Cuba diplomatic relations were restored for the first time since 1961, with both countries' Interest Sections officially becoming embassies.
"When we embarked on this trip to Cuba, we knew we were in a unique position to have an insider's view of history being made," said Joel Feld, ONE World Sports Executive Vice President, Programming & Production. "What amazed us even more was how welcoming the country was in giving us such free access to the city, the people and the Cuban Federation to communicate their thoughts, their overall impressions of the U.S. and the role soccer has played in bridging the gap between once opposing nations. ONE World Sports Originals looks forward to creating more stories that draw our viewers into the personality, passion and emotion that is evoked through sport."
A Bridge to Cuba features exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of soccer legends Pelé and Raúl, as well as NY Knick, and owner of the new NASL team Puerto Rico FC, Carmelo Anthony, who traveled with the team to Havana. This film marks the inaugural production of ONE World Sports Originals, a new unit developing original content to augment the network's growing catalogue of live sports programming from around the world.
"I think viewers will not only be transported to a city frozen in time, but will virtually share the journey we had in making A Bridge to Cuba," said Charles Berlepsch, Senior Producer/Editor, Original Content, ONE World Sports. "This film not only captures the team's trip to Havana but demonstrates the effect soccer has had on the Cuban community as well as how sports are at the forefront in bridging the gap between the U.S. and Cuban people."

In addition to its premiere on November 7th, the documentary will air again at 7:00 p.m. and have several encore showings throughout the following week. A Bridge to Cuba will also be available on the Watch ONE World Sports app beginning November 15.
