CLEVELAND, July 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Establishing a complete, secure electronic patient record is the main goal for healthcare providers seeking to achieve HIMSS Stage 7 requirements. In order to be successful in this endeavor, healthcare providers are looking for a proven enterprise content management (ECM) solution to capture and manage content across the healthcare organization. Hackensack University Medical Center, recognized as one of the Nation's 50 Best Hospitals, has selected Hyland Software's OnBase ECM solution because of its tight integration with its Epic electronic health record (EHR), and proven track record to expand throughout the enterprise to help reach Stage 7 goals.

HackensackUMC will use OnBase to consolidate its disparate scanning systems and integrate them directly into the EHR and hospital billing system. The healthcare provider's CIO, Dr. Shafiq Rab, selected OnBase due to the broad functionality and proven integrated solutions.
"When selecting a solution we were looking for a quality product that had the functionality needed to help us advance processes and provide the next level of patient care," stated Dr. Rab, chief information officer at HackensackUMC. "By connecting all documents and patient data within our Epic EHR we will complete the patient record, and ultimately achieve the paperless environment required to achieve HIMSS Stage 7."
ECM is considered a building block to get to the highest level of EHR adoption. OnBase takes unstructured content, such as scanned documents, faxes and electronic images and seamlessly presents it to clinicians through the EHR. Patient information captured by OnBase is presented directly through the Epic EMR, providing an integrated approach toward delivering a positive patient and provider experience.
HackensackUMC is among more than 120 mutual Hyland/Epic customers using OnBase across 600 hospitals and 4,900 ambulatory and sub-acute sites. "Our extensive healthcare industry expertise and years of experience providing clinical and financial solutions has established a proven track record of delivering tightly aligned solutions in delivering an exceptional end user experience," said Susan deCathelineau, vice president of healthcare sales and services at Hyland Software. "Our consultative approach strategically aligns our customer's healthcare IT strategy to meet initiatives such as meaningful use as well as provide value throughout the enterprise."
