One month, one thousand branches, countless smiles: TD employees unite in June to support local children's hospitals

TORONTO, June 9, 2014 /CNW/ - Calling someone just to say hi, buying a stranger a coffee or holding the door open for someone are some of the little things that can make someone's day brighter. That's the spirit of TD's twentieth annual "When you give a little, they get a lot" campaign for Children's Miracle Network. For one month, TD employees across the country will come together with customers to host local fundraisers in support of regional children's hospitals across Canada.
"Every one of us either has had a direct connection to a children's hospital or knows someone who has - and that's what makes this campaign so important to TD employees and customers," said Tim Hockey, President and CEO, TD Canada Trust. "For 20 years, we've been proud to support Children's Miracle Network, and this year we hope to inspire even more Canadians to do the same - if each one of us does our part we can make a great impact."
Did you know?
- Nearly 800,000 diagnostic imaging procedures are done on average every year on children. That's more than 2,100 procedures each day.
- About 94,000 surgeries are performed each year on children. That's 257 surgeries a day.
- More than 3,000 researchers are working on diagnosing causes, developing treatments and finding cures for children's diseases. Every day.
"There are 14 Children's Miracle Network regional member hospitals across Canada providing the best treatment to kids living in every community. We're thrilled that TD is supporting big changes within children's hospitals across Canada," said John Hartman, Chief Operating Officer for Children's Miracle Network of Canada. "TD customers and employees understand the importance of local giving to children who enter our hospitals for care."
This year, TD employees will participate in the campaign by doing one great thing whether big or small for their local hospital, such as raising funds through baseball tournaments and jelly-bean-guessing contests, or hosting barbeques and in-branch activities - because regardless of the size of your contribution, the impact is significant. Throughout June, TD customers can also get involved by making donations at their local TD Canada Trust branch. Canadians are encouraged to join the Twitter conversation by following @TD_Canada, @CMNCanada and #OneGreatThing.
The funds raised for Children's Miracle Network during this campaign will go towards treatment, specialized equipment, research and critical programs for the 4,900 sick and injured children treated every day at member hospitals. To date, close to $60 million has been raised for the Children's Miracle Network by TD customers and employees.
