ROCHESTER, Minn., Feb. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Olmsted Medical Center (OMC) announced today the launch of OMC eCare – an online diagnosis and treatment service that enable patients to receive convenient access to care by connecting them virtually with trusted OMC healthcare providers. OMC eCare builds on OMC's foundation of convenient care options, which includes two FastCare retail clinics and two Acute Care clinics.
"We know that there is a growing need for access to virtual care in Southeast Minnesota. By offering this new, online care opportunity, we will be better able to provide patients with fast and convenient access to quality healthcare at a lower cost. This new care option will be open to anyone, whether an OMC patient or a patient who receives care elsewhere. Patients will receive their diagnosis and treatment from an OMC healthcare provider and results from the online visit will be entered into the OMC medical record," shared Carole Nistler, MD, Department Chair for Family Medicine.
OMC eCare is powered by Zipnosis, the first virtual care company enabling leading health systems to launch virtual care service lines staffed by their own clinicians. Using evidence-based online adaptive interviews, patients can seek care from their smartphones, tablets or computers. Patients can be treated virtually for more than 20 common health conditions including allergies, cold and flu, pinkeye, sinusitis, urinary tract infection, cold sores, heartburn, and minor skin conditions – all for a set fee of $35 payable by credit, debit or health savings card.
"We are committed to providing our patients with care that not only focuses on quality, access and service, but also providing care in a way that meets their needs. With the addition of OMC eCare, we are able expand the more traditional face-to-face care model to care models that are non-traditional and cutting-edge, such as virtual care. OMC eCare enables us to provide patients with easy and convenient access to quality healthcare no matter where they are. And, we are able to do this without sacrificing the exceptional patient care services OMC is known for," stated Randy Hemann, MD, OMC's Medical Vice President, Medical Services.
After logging on to www.omcecare.org, patients complete a brief online interview through which they enter symptom and health history information. Once a patient's symptoms are entered, an OMC healthcare provider will review the interview results and then respond with a diagnosis and treatment plan. If medication is appropriate, prescriptions will be sent to the customer's preferred pharmacy for pick-up. OMC eCare can be used at any time of day, with providers responding within one hour between 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, seven days-a-week.
The virtual care platform was developed by Zipnosis – a Minneapolis-based company that partners with leading health systems to provide virtual care and telemedicine services, meeting the needs of patients while improving access to care and maximizing clinical capacity.
"Olmsted Medical Center is a leader in their market, and OMC eCare furthers this position," said Jon Pearce, Zipnosis CEO. "By focusing on enhancing access to quality care and lowering cost of care, they are prepared to meet the needs of their patients for years to come."
