Ohio Mortgage Bankers Travel to Washington, D.C. to Meet with Congressional Delegation on Key Housing Issues
COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Members of the Ohio Mortgage Bankers Association (OMBA) will storm Capitol Hill this week to educate Members of Congress on the most important issues facing the real estate financing industry as part of a nationwide fly-in organized by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA).
"The best way to educate the Ohio Congressional Delegation on the issues facing our industry is to put them in front of the mortgage bankers they represent," said Marianne Collins, executive director and chief operating officer of the Ohio Mortgage Bankers Association. "Our members know firsthand how the current housing finance system and its regulations are impacting Ohio's businesses, consumers, and homeowners."
Members of the national MBA will arrive in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, June 20th for the annual National Advocacy Conference, the organization's largest advocacy event of the year. In addition to hearing from influential speakers, including Ohio's own Rep. Steve Stivers, OMBA members will have the opportunity on Wednesday, June 21st to meet with their federal representatives.
Members will advocate for, among other things, housing finance reform, which is the last piece of unfinished business from the 2008 financial crisis. The MBA recently released a proposal, GSE Reform: Creating a Sustainable, More Vibrant Secondary Mortgage Market, with a recommended approach to reforming the current system. Participants will urge Congress to use the MBA approach as a guideline.
"There is strong bipartisan support for housing finance reform throughout Congress, so our goal is to generate some momentum among the Ohio Delegation for legislative action," said Collins. "Our members are excited about their trip to Washington and the real opportunity we have for true housing finance reform."
