Oh, Holy Night -- Pope Francis' Heavenly U.S. Visit -- Where Will They All Get Their Philly ZZZ's?
WESTPORT, Conn., Sept. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As the city of Philadelphia works to host more than one million people at Pope Francis' public mass at Independence Hall on Sunday, September 27th, the influx of people has everyone asking -- where will the faithful sleep?
With Philadelphia's inventory of 11,000 hotel rooms already reserved, there is the one visitor who is guaranteed a bed next month. The exclusively online mattress, Saatva, just filled an order for their most famous customer ever — The Pope himself. Saatva's eco-luxury memory foam brand, Loom & Leaf, will soon deliver their eco-luxury memory foam mattress to The St. Charles Seminary, located just outside of Philadelphia, in anticipation of Pope Francis's visit. The order was received through Bedding Industries of America (BIA) who specifically chose the Loom & Leaf mattress for The Pope.
"We are humbled and honored to be called to serve the Pope by providing him with healthy comfort so he will be well rested and ready to greet the millions of people coming to Philadelphia," said Ron Rudzin, CEO of Saatva Mattress. "The luxury mattress he will sleep on is fit for a king and for the everyday person too, a perfect choice for His Holiness."
Here's what is known about the Pontiff's sleep habits and where his flock will stay next month:
- The Pope is reported to go to bed at 9:00pm and never watches TV, instead prefers to read for an hour before he calls it a night at 10:00pm.
- The Pope normally sleeps for six hours and wakes at 4:00am, without an alarm. He often naps for 40 minutes to an hour during the day.
- The Philadelphia Zoo will serve as a campground for a New Jersey Church group; for $120/night parents and children will sleep on the floor of the Zoo's buildings that house the bird and insect exhibits.
- The Battleship New Jersey is offering 400 bunks for $75 per person. The price includes breakfast and dinner, a tour of the museum and a ride in a flight simulator. But there are no showers. Might have to swap the deck too.
- 300 local Philadelphia families have signed up to be host families to visitors for the week. While suggested rates for guests are $30 to $50, some homeowners (renting on their own) have reported asking $15,000 - $30,000 for the week.
- More than 500 people have put up their homes or spare rooms on independent sites such as Airbnb and Craigslist - some at steep prices.
- City healthcare professionals will be able to sleep at their work facilities, just as they do during snowstorms.
- Particular focus is being paid to pregnant women as Hosts for Hospitals, arranges free or low-cost accommodations in local volunteer homes to lodge pregnant women carrying babies already known to need special care or surgery after delivery.
- The Philadelphia Police Department report that officers may have to sleepover in the city for the first time in more than 20 years so they avoid a lack of manpower during peak times.
Saatva — which means clarity and purity — is changing sleep, and mattress-buying, as many Americans know it. The company designs and delivers ultra-premium innerspring and memory foam mattresses through 16 U.S.-based factories and 103 fulfillment centers. Saatva recently earned the ranking of the 7th fastest-growing private retailer in the U.S. by Inc. 500/5000, an exclusive ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in America; and the company was recognized in Forbes' 100 "America's Most Promising Companies" earlier this year. By cutting out the middleman and retail store markups in the traditional supply chain, the company is able to provide a luxury product at a significantly lower cost than other retailers and with a lot less hassle for customers. Saatva, which operates exclusively online, has taken a very traditional and inefficient brick-and-mortar business and has replaced it with an exclusively e-commerce based business that champions the customer with old-school, personalized customer service, nationwide delivery and home set-up. They recently expanded into the ultra-premium memory foam-bedding category with the launch of Loom & Leaf by Saatva brand.
