Ocasio-Cortez's 12-Year "Climate" Deadline Could Spell Disaster, States Physicians for Civil Defense
TUCSON, Ariz., March 25, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) ("AOC") and Democrat presidential hopefuls are advocating for a "Green New Deal," claiming that the world is going to end in 12 years unless we "address climate change." This means making drastic cuts in using the fuels that power 80 percent of the world's economy.
The "end is near, repent now" prophecies have been the stock in trade for radical environmentalists since the 1970s, writes Walter Williams. Paul Ehrlich of Stanford University predicted that at least 100 million to 200 million people per year would be starving to death during the "next 10 years" [1971-1980]. Numerous other deadlines have come and gone, as we keep getting "a bit more breathing space."
France's foreign minister Laurent Fabius said, in 2014, that we had only 500 days to avoid climate chaos. James Hansen, in 2009, gave Obama only 4 years to save the earth. Senior UN environmental official Noel Brown, said, in 1989, that entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth by rising sea levels if global warming was not reversed by the year 2000.
"Ironically, it could take just a dozen years to plunge the world into abject poverty and chaos," stated Physicians for Civil Defense President Jane M. Orient, M.D. "The worst imminent catastrophe imagined by Isaac Asimov in 1979—one which could bring down human civilization, was energy starvation."
"The Green New Deal guarantees energy starvation. Wind and solar and biomass cannot possibly replace our electrical generating capacity or transportation fuel—ever."
According to the Competitive Enterprise, fossil fuel consumption increased by 550 percent since 1950, while global life expectancy increased 68 percent, per capita food supply increased 6 percent, and the share of world population living in dire poverty decreased 55 percent. "Cutting off energy, or tripling its price, would reverse these gains," Dr. Orient stated.
"And the Democratic Socialists must remember that it only took 10 years of a socialist new deal to ruin Venezuela's prosperity."
