Obama Support Weakens in Blue, Green States, According to a New Poll by The O’Leary Report
53.5% of Likely Voters Overall Want Someone New
WASHINGTON, June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- President Obama's support for re-election continues to erode in battleground "Green" states while a plurality of voters in Blue States now say they want someone new in the White House.
A breaking new poll commissioned by The O'Leary Report and conducted by IBOPE Zogby International June 17-21 asked voters: "Do you think President Obama deserves to be re-elected or do you think it is time for someone new?" This poll is the fourth in a series of eight polls that will be conducted during 2011.
Overall, a majority of voters, 53.5%, say they think it's time for someone new while only 39.9% of voters say they would re-elect the President. Support for President Obama in Green states – those states won by President Obama in 2008 but are now in play for both Republicans and Democrats – dropped by 4 percentage points since last month with 36.9% saying they would re-elect the President compared to 55.6% of Green State voters that would vote for someone new.
Blue States, or those states that went solidly for President Obama in 2008, are surprisingly competitive. A plurality of blue state voters, 48.5%, continue to favor someone new compared with 43.7% in our latest poll that say they'd vote to re-elect the president.
