ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Renowned educator Rodger Bybee's The Teaching of Science: 21st-Century Perspectives is the perfect vehicle to help science teachers, administrators, curriculum developers, and science teacher educators reflect on basic issues in science education today and in the coming years. He contends that for educators to learn how best to teach science, they must first identify why they teach and what is important to teach. Bybee addresses topics such as contemporary challenges in science education, curriculum and instruction, inquiry in science teaching, and the development of 21st-century skills. This book will challenge science educators' current views and provide them with new perspectives for teaching.

Chapters are based on lectures, given by Bybee over the years that honor influential leaders in science education such as Paul F-Brandwein and Robert Carleton. Bybee presents ideas about curriculum and instruction in a style appropriate for educators, and chapters include brief introductions, background information, tables and charts to reinforce concepts and references and resources. In closing Bybee addresses the need for leadership and continued reform in science education. He uses this book as a tool to connect 20th-century leaders to future generations of science teachers as they themselves become 21st-century leaders.
With more than 40 years experience in the science education field, Bybee provides a unique perspective for dealing with the growing obstacles in science teaching today. The Teaching of Science will prove thought-provoking and beneficial for all members of the science education community as they create environments to engage citizens in the 21st century.
