November is 'Hire A Veteran Month' at Workforce Alliance
- Employers hold recruiting events for Veterans at Workforce Alliance Career Center
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Nov. 5, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Several Palm Beach County employers are scheduled to visit the Workforce Alliance Central Career Center throughout the month of November to recruit new employees from Workforce Alliance's extensive list of U.S. Military Veterans who are seeking employment.
Kathryn Schmidt, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Workforce Alliance, said, "Governor Crist issued a proclamation to designate November 2010 as 'Hire A Veteran Month' in Florida. We are proud to follow his initiative and hold special job recruiting events for veterans throughout the month. This will not only recognize and reward veterans for their service to our country, but will also highlight their unique skills and qualifications for local employers. The participating employers recognize and value the skills, experience and workplace readiness developed by the veterans while succeeding in one of the most demanding professions in America."
CSC (Computer Science Corporation) was the initial company to hold a Veterans' recruiting event at the Workforce Alliance Career Center as they seek to fill positions connected with their federal contract with the U.S. Navy's Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC). Other companies recruiting veterans at the Career Center this month include: G4S Wackenhut, Comcast, Gulfstream Goodwill Industries, and Sysco Corporation. Several other companies have expressed interest and are welcome to participate.
Workforce Alliance has a list of Veterans who have registered as a job-seeker and submitted a resume on the State employment web site, www.employflorida.com. The Employ Florida web site has a special portal for the use of veterans and companies seeking to hire veterans.
Employers who wish to participate in the "Hire A Veteran Month" program and use the Career Center facility to recruit Veterans should contact one of the Veterans Representatives at Workforce Alliance by calling (561) 340-1060, and dialing ext. 2309, 2337, 2364 or 2392. As an alternative, employers can simply call a Veterans Representative and submit their job positions for Workforce Alliance to screen, select and refer suitable Veteran candidates.
Veterans who are residents of Palm Beach County and have not registered at Workforce Alliance for employment assistance are encouraged to call the same number to inquire about the registration process for the November hiring events and other employment assistance.
The site of the hiring events is Workforce Alliance's Central Career Center, located in West Palm Beach at the Pine Trail Plaza, 1951 North Military Trail, on the southwest corner of Military Trail and Okeechobee Boulevard.
Workforce Alliance's Local Veterans' Employment Representatives and Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialists specialize in providing employment information and services for veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, to include counseling, assessments, workshops, training opportunities and job placements for eligible veterans.
The Veterans' Representatives also inform and advise Palm Beach County employers of the advantages of hiring veterans for their skills and can explain tax incentives and grant opportunities that can be realized when hiring veterans.
