NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y., Nov. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Northwell Health has appointed veteran finance executives Richard Miller and Michele Cusack to lead business strategy and finance operations for the $11 billion clinical, academic and research enterprise.
Mr. Miller, of East Williston, has been named executive vice president and chief business strategy officer while Ms. Cusack will manage finance operations as senior vice president and chief financial officer.
"Both are insightful individuals with vast knowledge of our health system who have been instrumental in strengthening our financial performance and guiding prospective ventures," said Northwell President and CEO Michael J. Dowling. "Both will transition into new, complementary roles that will drive our financial health. Their guidance will be critical as we continue to innovate and grow."
Mr. Miller will oversee revenue optimization, financial strategies that match our organizational strategies and commercial investments. Ms. Cusack will be responsible for all financial reporting, financial planning, budgeting for the entire health system, treasury services as well as internal auditing.
They succeed Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Bob Shapiro, who is retiring after 17 years in the post and more than three decades of service to the health system. His fiscal leadership helped transform and grow Northwell Health into one of the state's most-integrated health systems and largest private employer.
Mr. Miller was CFO for NYU Hospitals Center prior to joining Northwell in 2008. He has risen to become deputy CFO of business strategy and senior vice president overseeing value-based payment arrangements, contracting and business development strategies, payer relations and contract negotiations. He will remain chair of the Northwell Health Plans Holding Company. He received a BBA from Bernard Baruch College and earned an MBA from the Stern School of Business of New York University.
Ms. Cusack, of Bethpage, a certified public accountant who has been part of the health system since 1996, was promoted last year to deputy CFO and senior vice president of finance. She has managed corporate financial reporting, budgeting, cash management and tax management, as well as the planning, development and implementation of our financial policies, strategies and operational standards. She holds a BBA and MBA from Hofstra University, serves as an administrator on the Northwell Board of Trustees' finance and audit committees, and is a member of the Dean's Advisory Board for Hofstra University's Zarb School of Business.
