Northern Light Introduces SharePoint Web Parts Collection to Embed SinglePoint Strategic Research Portal Content and Search Facilities Throughout a Company's Intranet
Northern Light also can crawl SharePoint sites to index their content in SinglePoint, alerting researchers across an enterprise to locally-stored documents
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Northern Light (www.northernlight.com) today introduced new capabilities for coordinating content between its SinglePoint™ enterprise strategic research portals and Microsoft SharePoint sites on a company's intranet, dramatically expanding an organization's ability to leverage market research, competitive intelligence and other strategic documents for better decision-making.

Northern Light launched the SinglePoint API and SharePoint Web Parts Collection, which lets organizations easily embed SinglePoint portal content and search facilities throughout a company's intranet. SinglePoint context-specific search facilities, research reports, and news content may be inserted directly into the intranet sites of product and brand groups within a SinglePoint client organization, through secure web calls from the SharePoint installation to SinglePoint.
"Embedding content from SinglePoint directly into our clients' intranet sites has led to increases in SinglePoint content usage of 100 percent or more," Northern Light CEO David Seuss said. "The more that content is used, the better an organization's decisions, and the greater the value derived from its premium research subscriptions."
The SinglePoint API can be used for any intranet platform, such as IBM WebSphere, Microsoft SharePoint, and Oracle Portal 11g. Northern Light's Web Parts Collection is specifically for Microsoft SharePoint installations.
Northern Light also can crawl Microsoft SharePoint installations to index content from internal sources into the organization's SinglePoint portal, which makes the documents searchable and findable across the enterprise.
"Because anyone can throw up a rudimentary 'portal' using Microsoft SharePoint, many companies have seen a proliferation of intranet sites where market research, competitive intelligence, and product strategy documents get posted," Seuss said. "The result has been an unwieldy and unmanaged fragmenting of document storage all over the intranet. Indexing that content within an organization's SinglePoint portal makes it all searchable at the same time that licensed external market research is searched."
Northern Light's SinglePoint strategic research portal is the only turnkey enterprise search application that provides centralized search, analysis, and access for diverse sources of internal, external, and licensed market intelligence. SinglePoint portals are used by many of the world's leading research-driven companies in IT, telecommunications, pharmaceutical, financial services and other industries for competitive intelligence and market research, strategic planning, product development, marketing, and sales. Northern Light also offers a SinglePoint "dashboard" tool, which lets organizations immediately publish specific content on time-sensitive strategic topics for audiences whose focus needs to be on tasks other than research. SinglePoint dashboards provide executives a snapshot of key information needed to make business decisions, and to stay current on developments in their company and industry sector.
