North 6th Agency Launches "Root to Shoot" Fundraising Promotion For High-Scoring Iona Gaels This Season
Three pointers and 100 point games from sharpshooting Iona Gaels this season turn into donations for "Save the Skin" cancer awareness charity and Goal Club athletics support association.
NEW YORK, Sept. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- North 6th Agency (N6A), an award-winning communications agency based in New York City, today announced the launch of "Root to Shoot", a first-of-its-kind fundraising promotion in partnership with the Iona College athletics department for the 2014-15 Iona Gaels men's basketball season.
For every three point basket made by Iona men's basketball at home this season, N6A will donate $50. A digital graphic will be presented with a running tally of donations on the new state-of-the-art high-definition scoreboard in the Hynes Athletics Center, home of the Iona Gaels. Last season, the Gaels led the nation in three-point field goals with 10.24 per game and a total of 330 for the season.
N6A will also donate $1,000 for each time Iona hits the 100-point mark on its home floor this season. Known for their high-scoring offense, the Gaels have led the nation in scoring two of the past three seasons, and hit the 100 point mark on eight occasions during that time frame.
Donations will be divided equally between the Iona College Goal Club and the BlueRock Energy "Save the Skin" campaign.
"We're really proud to get behind this initiative, and we encourage others in the Iona family, as well as within Westchester County and the Greater Tri-State communities to support the cause," said Matt Rizzetta, CEO of N6A and Iona College alumnus. "Under coach Cluess Iona has indisputably been the most successful and exciting basketball program in the New York Metro area for years, and now fans have more than one reason to cheer as the Gaels keep making three pointers and hit triple digits on the scoreboard."
The Iona College Goal Club is an association of dedicated friends and alumni who support the college's 21 NCAA Division I teams, club sports and general athletics programs. Donations to the Goal Club provide the needed equipment, facility upgrades, team transportation and academic support services for Iona College's student-athletes.
BlueRock Energy's "Save the Skin" campaign was founded in 2014 by Phil Van Horne, President and CEO of N6A client BlueRock Energy, the premier provider of electricity, natural gas and green energy products to businesses and residents in New York State. Van Horne started the campaign in 2014 to raise awareness for skin cancer and to support the Melanoma Research Foundation after he was diagnosed with the disease and endured months of treatment.
"We are very grateful for the support from Matt Rizzetta and N6A through this exciting initiative," said Iona College Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. "It is the generosity of alumni like Matt that ensures the advancement and continued success of Gael Athletics. We are also looking forward to having a hand in supporting 'Save the Skin' and its efforts to fund Melanoma research. Two of the pillars of the culture within Iona Athletics are philanthropy and giving back to the community, and this campaign is a great demonstration of those principles."
Those interested in supporting this initiative as an extension donor should contact Iona College Senior Associate Athletic Director Matt Glovaski at [email protected].
