MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Nonin Medical, Inc., a leader in noninvasive medical monitoring, announced today that the company's LifeSense® and RespSense™ capnography monitors now achieve globally recognized requirements for medical electrical equipment used while professionally transporting a patient outside of a healthcare facility.* These requirements are globally recognized by regulatory bodies. "Nonin Medical is committed to patient safety and product performance," said Jim Zimmerman, Vice President of Marketing for Nonin Medical. "Achievement of these rigorous standards further demonstrates our commitment to quality. Emergency medical personnel can be confident knowing that their Nonin capnographs provide accurate, durable, and reliable performance–even in challenging conditions–during the critical air or ground transport of patients."
Capnography is a non-invasive monitoring technique that measures the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in air exhaled from lungs. During the transport of intubated patients, capnography provides verification of endotracheal tube placement and effectiveness of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. In non-intubated patients, capnography alerts emergency personnel to changes in ventilation, respiratory distress and possible metabolic problems. The American Heart Association recommends the use of capnography for confirmation and monitoring of endotracheal tube placement.
Highly portable with a widescreen touch-panel display, Nonin's RespSense and LifeSense capnography monitors are suitable for infant through adult patients and can be used in a wide range of clinical settings.
Key product advantages include:
- Fast and Accurate — Provides clinicians with first breath detection of CO2 gases with minimal setup required
- Small and Lightweight — Ideal for portable use in a variety of Emergency Medical Service applications
- Long Battery Life — Provides up to eight hours of continuous use when fully charged
- Widescreen Display — Easy to read and use, even in low light
