New York's Robert Louis Stevenson School's 50th Anniversary Celebration Kicks Off Monday, May 16

"Empower Our Future" Fundraising Campaign Underway

NEW YORK, May 9 , 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Manhattan's Robert Louis Stevenson School's 50th Anniversary and fundraising campaign kicks off on Monday, May 16th at NYU's Rosenthal Pavilion with their annual Gala Spring Benefit Cocktail Reception and Dinner.  This year's fundraising focus is "Technology to Empower Our Future" and the Stevenson school has prepared a comprehensive view of cutting edge technology solutions for the classroom.

The gala's cocktail hour will spotlight new classroom technology with demonstrations from Apple Education and Polyvision and will also feature an online auction on CharityBuzz.com, an on-site Silent Auction and a 3D Teacher Wishes tree.  

The evening's highlight will include the institution of the Lucille Rhodes Vision in Education Award, to be bestowed on a company and/or an individual who has demonstrated visionary leadership in the field of education.  Named in honor of the school's founder, the inaugural award recipients are NBC News' Education Nation and Viacom's Get Schooled Foundation.

Funds raised at the event will support a comprehensive overhaul of Stevenson's educational technology system.  "We are in the midst of an educational revolution fueled by technological innovation," said Doug Herron, Interim Head of School.  "Technology is changing how we teach, how we learn and how we experience the world."

When they opened the doors to Stevenson in 1961, founders Leo and Lucille Rhodes were pursuing success and excellence in adolescent education. Through their extensive work, the Rhodes shaped an  innovative program with a simple goal:  to help underachieving adolescents develop their self-esteem, enhance their desire for learning, and establish a foundation for future growth.  The mission, conceived by the Rhodes, is the same today.
