NEW YORK, Sept. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With a name that literally means 'thank you,' merci® is founded in the belief that even small expressions of gratitude have the power to transform someone's day. But according to a recent study conducted by the brand, Americans may not be getting the thanks they deserve. The 2016 Gratitude Survey revealed that nearly three out of four Americans do not feel appreciated when they have done something nice for someone and merci is aiming to spread awareness in an effort to encourage more thank yous.
The survey revealed additional surprising statistics including:
- 49.3% of respondents agree that saying 'thanks' or 'thank you' has lost its true meaning of gratitude and appreciation
- Nearly twice as many participants aged 18-25 don't show appreciation as often as those aged 55+ when they are thankful for something
- Males are two times more likely than females to not show appreciation when they are thankful for something
- Respondents ranked garbage collectors, moms, teachers and mail carriers as the most under-appreciated people
- Individuals in the Northeast on average verbally say thank you the most per day
To further their mission and encourage everyday acts of gratitude, merci is teaming up with Broadway star and big screen actress, Kristin Chenoweth, to take over Columbus Circle for a heartfelt celebration of National Thank You Day. On Thursday, Sept. 15, merci is giving New Yorkers the opportunity to express their gratitude by posting a custom thank you note on its giant Thank You Wall to encourage the act of every day thankfulness. Chocolate lovers who post a thank you note to the wall will receive two boxes of merci rich, European chocolates – one to enjoy and one to give as an expression of gratitude.
Americans nationwide can also join in the experience by sharing their heartfelt thanks on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #givemerci.
"A simple thank you or token of appreciation can go a long way and have a big impact on others," said Kevin Carro, Marketing Manager at Storck USA. "We want to celebrate National Thank You Day and shine a spotlight on a small act that means a lot, encouraging Americans to say 'thank you' today and every day."
The merci Thank You Wall will be on display in Columbus Circle from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. EST. Locals and tourists alike can post their handwritten thank you cards and indulge in merci's fine assortment of chocolates, including Praline-Creme, Dark Mousse, Hazelnut-Creme and Hazelnut-Almond. Consumers are encouraged to take advantage of the on-site photo booth where they can share a photo or video on social media with a special thank you shout out to anyone they think deserves recognition.
