New Study Launches To Improve Health & Fitness In Elementary School Children Through Journaling
St. Jude Medical Center and fitlosophy Partner with Educators with "Kids Eat Well Study"
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Sept. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- fitlosophy, Inc. (www.getfitbook.com), a lifestyle company and creator of the fitbook series of fitness and nutrition journals, has partnered with St. Jude Medical Center, Fullerton School District, California State University Fullerton, and The Dairy Council, to conduct a 12-week study using fitlosophy's fitbook junior to track health habits of 3,850 4th and 5th grade students. The goal of the study is to identify if the process of goal-setting and journaling has an impact on children's overall health.
At the beginning of the "Kids Eat Well Study", students will complete an anonymous survey to gather information about their current eating habits. Students will participate in a series of nutrition lessons led by certified health educators and those in the 348-student intervention group will use fitbook junior to set weekly goals, track progress and earn rewards.
The fitbook junior is unique because it meets five standardized criteria required by school districts: journaling, nutrition, physical activity, reading and writing. Each workbook offers a daily tracking, a weekly wrap-up page, and a section for earned rewards. Children can use the creative writing and reflection portion to keep them inspired.
"We are excited to be an integral part of this study so we can teach kiddos to lead a life of balanced health and wellness," said Angela Mader, fitlosophy's founder and chief fitlosopher. "Goal-setting is a key part of living life fit, and by introducing this concept to kids early and often, we are taking bold steps to combat the rise of childhood obesity and change the shape and future of America - literally."
Results of the study will be available spring 2016. For more information about the fitbook junior, please visit www.getfitbook.com
