"The healthcare field is one of today's fastest growing and changing industries. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in healthcare is projected to grow 19 percent from 2014 to 2024, adding about 2.3 million new jobs," said Dr. Christian Wright, Health Sciences department dean at Rasmussen College. "Students and prospective students often enter college knowing they want to work in the healthcare field but are unaware of all the industry has to offer, including both direct and indirect patient care career opportunities. The Rasmussen College Healthcare Career Matchmaker infographic will help prospective students determine what it is they are really interested in long-term and may even lead them to a career they may not have known existed."

Identifying a possible healthcare career path is just the first step. To learn more about a specific healthcare career, experts from the Rasmussen College School of Health Sciences have the following tips:

• Find someone in the field and pick their brain. Sit down and ask about what they do on a daily basis.
• Watch relevant videos and read industry blogs to help gain perspective on the field. Note the physical demands and requirements it takes to be successful.
• Talk to a faculty member—they are often willing to meet with students on the phone or in person to discuss a program in more depth.
• When researching program offerings, look for accreditation as well as state and national licensing details to ensure you can achieve your specific career goals.
• High school students should consider taking additional classes that would help a future career in healthcare, including extra biology and chemistry courses.
