New Jersey City University Appoints Daniel P. Elwell Vice President for University Advancement

JERSEY CITY, N.J., Sept. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Daniel P. Elwell, an accomplished advancement executive and sales and marketing professional, has been appointed Vice President for University Advancement at New Jersey City University (NJCU). He will also serve as executive director of the New Jersey City University Foundation, Inc.

Mr. Elwell will lead NJCU's fundraising, communications and marketing efforts.  He joined the University's senior management team on September 3 following a national search.

In announcing Mr. Elwell's appointment, Dr. Sue Henderson, NJCU president, said, "This is a time of great opportunity at NJCU, and we are fortunate to have Mr. Elwell join us in a leadership role that is central to our efforts to move forward initiatives for excellence and to build partnerships that will meet the growing needs of our community."

The new Vice President for University Advancement came to NJCU from The Ohio State University where he served as Senior Director of Advancement, New York Metro, overseeing all advancement activities for over 30,000 constituents in the greater New York Metropolitan area. The scope of his responsibilities there included all fundraising, alumni relations, communications, stewardship, events, volunteer development, trustee and foundation board management, and all regional activities as part of a University-wide advancement effort associated with a $2.5 billion campaign at Ohio State.

Prior to his service to Ohio State, Mr. Elwell worked for five years in development at his alma mater, Rutgers University, where he was the Director of Regional Campaigns and helped to launch Rutgers' $1 billion "Our Rutgers Our Future" campaign. 

Before working at Rutgers, Mr. Elwell was employed for several years in sales and business development roles for various corporations including Vonage, where he was responsible for the North American retail sales team and helped position the company for a successful IPO.

Mr. Elwell is a graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick where he earned a B.A. in philosophy.
