OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Recognizing the increased importance of its network capacity, security and reliability, Woodlands Retirement Community in Huntington, West Virginia has implemented Zhone Technologies' (NASDAQ: ZHNE) FiberLAN solution to create a multi-use network. In a case study titled "Zhone Technologies' Passive Optical LAN Solution, FiberLAN, Supports Resident Care," the director of technology at Woodlands articulates how FiberLAN provides a reliable network. The new network supports digital health records, wander management services, and keeps health information secure and accessible, while delivering Internet, phone and video access to more than 500 residents on Woodlands' campus. The case study is available for download at www.zhone.com/woodlands/.
"Due to the sheer size of our facility and campus, FiberLAN was the best alternative to the traditional copper-based LANs available today," says Richard Eid, Director of Technology, Woodlands Retirement Community. "It's cost-effective and energy efficient, making it an attractive option for large-scale deployments. But what really won us over at the end of the day is the ability of Zhone's FiberLAN suite to expand and adapt over time as Woodlands continues to grow, and grow we will."
When Woodlands decided to upgrade its network infrastructure, it knew it required a system that would support the needs of its medical professionals and the quality of life amenities for patients and their families. In compliance to the U.S. Government's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Woodlands uses electronic medical records that require the utmost security due to the confidential nature of the documents. Housing 252 units, it also needed a deployment model that would not disrupt the residents and staff throughout its 171-acre campus.
Qypsys, a premier infrastructure integrator, recommended Zhone's FiberLAN solution, a next-generation Optical LAN solution that has the ability to deliver high-speed data, voice and video to multi-level, multi-unit facilities. Zhone and Qypsys collaborated to create a comprehensive solution that took into account the following considerations, which are outlined in the case study:
"We are extremely pleased that we can now offer wireless services to our residents for free. They have commented continually about how fast their new internet connection is, which is satisfying because our sole purpose is to take care of our residents and this has been an exceptional addition to the quality for them," Eid adds.
