Network Instruments Achieves Record Revenues for 2010
Data Center Build-Outs and Application Management Drive Double-Digit Growth
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Network Instruments®, a worldwide leader in network and application management, today announced it achieved record revenues in 2010 with an annual growth rate of 11 percent. With more than 66,000 licensed users, new revenues were largely fueled by new data center build-outs and demand by network teams for visibility into application delivery and virtual environments.
"While most vendors have been adversely impacted by companies spending less on IT, we've maintained strong growth by addressing the needs of larger customers and expanding monitoring support for emerging technologies like cloud and virtualization," said Douglas Smith, president and co-founder of Network Instruments. "In 2010, sales increased significantly due to several transactions in the seven-figure range. Our average deal size grew by more than 10 percent."
Trends Fueling Growth
A significant portion of the company's growth can be attributed to the expansion and building of new data centers, which compelled organizations to embrace new technologies from 10 Gb to virtualization and upgrade their performance monitoring solutions. Network Instruments retrospective network analysis (RNA) appliances, specifically built to handle high throughput 10 Gb environments, allowed it to take advantage of this trend.
Another factor driving revenue growth is the increasing need of network teams for in-depth application analysis. The Network Instruments 2010 State of the Network Global Study found that 83 percent of respondents felt the biggest challenge they faced was determining the source of performance problems in the data center. Network professionals have taken on greater responsibility for managing complex applications at the core, and rely on Network Instruments' long-term packet capture and comprehensive analysis capabilities for immediate problem resolution.
Market Milestones
Network Instruments has been a long-time frontrunner in the performance monitoring and retrospective analysis market. This was demonstrated through multiple industry-leading product achievements in 2010.
First at Saving Full-Duplex 10 Gb to Disk at Line Rate: The GigaStor™ 10 Gb Wire Speed unit was the first RNA device capable of capturing and storing packets on fully saturated, full-duplex 10 Gb links at wire speed.
First Field-Upgradeable RNA Platform: The new GigaStor Upgradeable became the first long-term packet capture appliance that could be expanded onsite. The 5U chassis increased storage capacity by 300 percent compared to past GigaStor models.
Largest RNA Device: The storage capacity of GigaStor SAS nearly doubled, scaling up to 576 TB–making it the largest RNA device available.
