NEF CyberLearning's 2015 STEM Leadership Award Goes to Steubenville
WASHINGTON, June 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Education Foundation (NEF), the national nonprofit leader in K-12 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education solutions, awarded its 2015 STEM Leadership Award for $10,000 to Steubenville City Schools in Ohio.
Steubenville students advanced a grade level in math and reading in 23 and 25 learning hours respectively. Steubenville also made provisions for students to receive dual college credits, so that all high school graduates can simultaneously also receives an Associates college degree from the local community college. The STEM Leadership Award celebrates the exemplary implementation of the STEM education solution by a school district that effectively motivates their students towards academic success.
At the Award ceremony, NEF Chairman Dr. Appu Kuttan stated, "NEF is concerned that the US is ranked 27th out of 34 countries in math and science. Our STEM academies across the nation will help students of disadvantaged schools improve their STEM skills, thus enabling them to better compete for jobs in the highly competitive 21st century global economy."
Steubenville successfully implemented NEF's CyberLearning Total STEM+ (STEM, reading, social studies, SAT/ACT, IT, business and management) System Solution through personalized learning using top-rated online courses, teacher training, learning management system, teacher stipends, student awards, parent training and tech support.
NEF's STEM+ Solution has been implemented in school districts across the US by the State University of New York (SUNY), in partnership with local universities.
Steubenville's success stands out as a clear example of how to cost-effectively improve student achievement by involving and motivating all the stakeholders—students, teachers, parents and administrators.
School districts in Warren County, PA, and Balko, OK, also received monetary awards and recognition.
