To prepare for future cardiovascular care needs, the American Heart Association developed methodology to project future costs of care for hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke and all other forms of CVD from 2010 to 2030. CVD is the leading cause of death in the United States and is responsible for 17 percent of national health expenditures.
The findings are part of a policy statement from the American Heart Association urging effective prevention strategies to limit the growing burden of CVD. Published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association, the policy report is titled, "Collision Course: America's Baby Boomers and Cardiovascular Disease."
