California Public Utilities Commission Verdict Upholds Labor Standards
NEW YORK, March 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Limousine Association applauds California's monumental decision to regulate Uber in the same manner that it does TCPs/ground transportation providers. This proposal, which notes Uber imposes extensive, employer-like control over its drivers, is the first step in ensuring equal standards across the industry that will allow private operators to remain competitive in an ever-expanding landscape. While ground transportation providers have long been subjected to such safety regulations, ride-hailing companies have not.
"We have long called for standard regulations across the industry which will allow all private transportation operators to conduct business in a fair and equitable manner," said Gary Buffo, President of the National Limousine Association. "Uber has inarguably operated within the state's definition of a TCP, and it's time for them to be held accountable," Buffo continued. Regulatory bodies in each state must take a stand to ensure that America remains a fair and prosperous land for both businesses and employees."
The National Limousine Association calls on Californians to contact their local leaders, and to voice their support for the decision through the public comment period. The public comment period will conclude on April 26, 2018. Californians are encouraged to contact their local legislators at www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative
