OAKLAND, Calif., June 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Business Group on Health, a nonprofit association of large U.S. employers, has honored Kaiser Permanente for its ongoing commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy work environment and encouraging its workers and their families to maintain healthy lifestyles.
For the fifth consecutive year, Kaiser Permanente was among 64 U.S. employers that received the 2015 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles® award. The award was presented at the Leadership Summit last week sponsored by the National Business Group on Health's Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-being on June 18.
Kaiser Permanente received a Gold award for the dynamic and innovative Healthy Workforce programs, tools and resources it offers to support the total health of its employees and physicians. Resources include a number of creative programs that empower employees to eat healthier in the workplace and at home, reward regular physical activity, and reduce stress by increasing mindfulness.
"The concept of 'Better Health for All' has always been an integral part of Kaiser Permanente's mission — and that means better health not only for our 10.1 million members and the communities we serve, but also for our 175,000 employees and 18,000 physicians who deliver the high-quality care and service people expect from Kaiser Permanente," said chairman and CEO Bernard J. Tyson.
In addition to its programs, Kaiser Permanente, in partnership with the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions, helps employees make their own health a priority with the Total Health Incentive Plan. This voluntary, confidential and innovative program is offered to employees as a way of promoting healthy behavior throughout the workforce. The THIP is one of the first large-scale incentive programs to take a population-based approach to workforce health, rewarding improvements on a group basis, with no penalties for individuals who choose not to participate.
Brian Marcotte, president and CEO of the National Business Group on Health, commented: "We congratulate Kaiser Permanente for being among an elite group of companies that are making a difference every day in improving the health and overall well-being of their employees and families. Kaiser Permanente and its leadership team are to be commended for their commitment to promoting healthy work environments and for their innovation in developing outstanding programs for employees that encourage good health and well-being."
