"We are excited to be offering these versatile web services IP portfolios to our global base of buyers. The technologies offered provide a wide range of improvements and have the potential to boost efficiency in the areas of semantic search, social media, mobile media, smart phone applications, and music subscription services," says Dean Becker, CEO of ICAP Patent Brokerage.
Key Characteristics & Benefits
Lot 12 – Posting & Sharing Multimedia Content
The first sales offering includes techniques for posting and sharing multimedia files – audio, video, images, or software – over a network. Utilizing the patented invention, information related to a file that has been uploaded on a media server is incorporated into a list of media content for sharing, as approved by the user or the website. These server databases or websites can be accessed by other users for retrieval or playback of the uploaded media files. A media file may also be rated according to number of requests or user ratings of the media files, enabling discovery of popular content. Also, intelligent client software is capable of processing the media content list information for an improved user experience. Therefore, easy and fast distribution of media files over a network can be achieved. The features of the technology for sale, such as recording, posting, retrieving, sharing, recommending, or updating multimedia content, may find potential applications in social media on smart phones and tablets, mobile application distribution, or music subscription services.
Lot 13 – Media Classification & Retrieval
The second portfolio for sale includes improved techniques for classifying and annotating multimedia files – online documents, audio, or video – for semantic-based searching or retrieval. Using this technique, the media file information is classified and tagged by the author by combining bibliographic classification of content with keywords from the information content. This information is reduced to a set of classification codes identifying the meaning of the content, which a user can easily search by defining category, context, and keywords for the information being searched. The offered techniques are useful in applications such as semantic search, subscriptions to website updates based on content, or targeted advertisements. Further, the portfolio also discusses techniques for splitting, annotating, or indexing subsections (i.e., displaying thumbnails) of multimedia files based on their content. Hence, different subsections of a media file can also be retrieved.
