Press Conference to Feature Jobless Workers, Speaker Pelosi, Secretary of Labor Solis, Senator Harkin
WASHINGTON, Nov. 30, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Approximately 100 unemployed Americans will take their case to Congress Wednesday, holding a press conference and then visiting key members of the House and Senate.
The visitors, who are being brought to D.C. primarily by USAction and the AFL-CIO, are engaging in a last-gasp effort to ask Congress not to cut unemployment insurance for millions of Americans who are jobless through no fault of their own.
"We, the unemployed, are jobless through no fault of our own," said USAction member Edrie Irvine, whose benefits expire in three weeks. "I want to say it again: It's not our fault. We don't have to apologize. We don't have to remain invisible. We count and our voices can and will be heard."
