LOS ANGELES, Feb. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Do you win Oscars pools with regularity, consider yourself a film buff, have a hunch that The Post will pull an upset and win Best Picture this year? Now there's a ground-breaking new site where you can use your expertise to potentially profit and make real money -- Fame Project.
Fame Project users can now make predictions on seven Oscar categories: Best Picture, Best Leading Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Picture with Most Wins and Best Director. Users predict whether nominees will win in their respective categories, such as whether upstart Saoirse Ronan will upset favorite Frances McDormand for Best Actress.
Fame Project is a real-money prediction market for pop culture events, following the same guidelines as the well-known prediction markets for political events, PredictIt and Iowa Electronic Markets (IEM). Like PredictIt and IEM, Fame Project operates as a non-profit market with the goal of generating data and funding for research and educational purposes.
"Prediction markets give people the opportunity to put their money where their mouth is and prove they knew what was going to happen all along," said J.S. Wagner, COO of Enigmath, a service provider for the market. "Now, with Fame Project, film aficionados who feel strongly they can accurately predict who is going to win the Oscars can make their predictions with real money."
Trades on Fame Project are made on the outcome of future events with contracts, whose share prices range from 1¢ to 99¢. Because shares eventually resolve to a value of 0¢ or 100¢, depending on whether the events occur, prices indicate the market's belief about the chances of the events occurring. For example, in the Best Actress category, Ronan is currently priced at 23¢ and Frances McDormand at 44¢, which means traders are pricing Ronan's chances of winning at 23% and McDormand at 44%. Being right on Roman at 23¢ would yield a 335% gross profit when it resolves to 100¢.
Fame Project will continue to expand the quantity and types of contracts offered for trading. Other examples of open markets include: National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball (MLB) free agency, the NFL Draft, Tiger Woods and Professional Golf and even Reality Television. New Fame Project users are offered $10 of free trading money, so they begin trading immediately after registering at https://fameproject.org.
