Motions® Salon Hair Care Partners with Black Girls RUN!®
Leading multi-textured hair care brand offers women solutions for managing and maintaining healthy hair while exercising
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Sept. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Motions® Salon Hair Care is proud to announce its sponsorship of the inaugural Black Girls RUN! ®/Drive to End Hunger 5K/10K race and fitness weekend presented by Coca-Cola from September 14 - 16 in Atlanta, Georgia. Motions® has been a trusted source in multi-textured hair care for almost 20 years. Now, they have partnered with Black Girls RUN!® – an organization dedicated to tackling the growing obesity epidemic among the African-American community – to offer products and resources to black women struggling to manage their hair as they embrace a healthy and active lifestyle.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, about four out of five African-American women are overweight or obese(1). Additionally, one-third of African-American women cite their hair as a deterrent to physical activity(2).
"We're seeing a distinct link between hair and fitness among African-American women. In fact, just last year the U.S. Surgeon General advocated natural hairstyles to encourage more black women to exercise," said Donna Barker, Senior Brand Building Director for Unilever Multi-Cultural Brands, which owns Motions®. "Not only does natural hair lend styling versatility, but it can also allow women to embrace a multitude of new and healthy lifestyle choices, such as running."
Earlier this year, Motions® introduced a new line of products created specially for women with natural hair textures. The six new products feature salon-tested formulas, which include a special blend of shea butter, coconut and avocado oils to deeply nourish and moisturize the hair. Motions® will be onsite at the inaugural Black Girls RUN!®/Drive to End Hunger 5K/10K race and fitness weekend, providing products and resources to help active black women preserve and protect their natural hair textures before, during and after their run.
In addition to the race, throughout the weekend the Black Girls RUN!® National Conference will be held at the Downtown Sheraton Atlanta. The conference will include a variety of workshops and learning opportunities designed to provide women with tools and resources to live a healthy and active lifestyle – including a customized Beauty Bar featuring Motions® products, expert tips and more.
"Through our network, we have seen a significant amount of women seeking advice and sharing information about how to care for their hair while exercising," said Toni Carey, Co-Founder of Black Girls RUN!®. "Motions® has the products and resources to inspire and educate these women. Together we can ensure they do not have to sacrifice their health for their hair – they can stay active and look fabulous while doing it."
