Motif Investing Offers Consumers a Way to Get Paid for Great Ideas
Online Broker Lets People Create Baskets of Securities Based on Specific Themes and Strategies and Receive a Royalty When Others Buy Them
SAN MATEO, Calif., Oct. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Motif Investing, an innovative online broker that pioneered low-cost, ideas-based investing, announced today that consumers can now make money when they create and share motifs -- baskets of up to 30 thematically weighted stocks and ETFs -- and earn royalties when other investors buy them.
"We are literally putting power into the hands of consumers, giving them more control over their investment ideas and allowing them to reap the rewards," said Hardeep Walia, Motif's co-founder and chief executive. "We are the only online broker empowering people to get paid for their investment ideas."
Shifting the Online Investing Paradigm
Motif is changing the face of online investing through its inventive, transparent social investing platform that lets anyone invest in ideas based on insights, strategies, events and trends. Motif has more than 100 professionally constructed portfolios to help those who want to invest in everything from a continuing surge in shale oil, a rebound in precious metals, or more strong growth for Asian economies, etc.
In addition, earlier this year, Motif launched a Build-Your-Own feature for customers. Since then, Motif customers have built or customized more than 15,000 new motifs. After consumers build a motif, they can publish it on the Motif website, making it discoverable and searchable by the broader community.
Starting today, when another customer buys a motif created by a member of the community, the creator will be eligible for compensation through Motif's Creator Royalty Program. The motif creator also has insight into the popularity of the motif through an easy-to-use and dynamic dashboard, which displays performance, number of watches, and number of people who purchased or rebalanced the custom motif.
For instance, a customer might want to create a motif betting on the repeal of Obamacare by putting together a basket of medical device stocks that have been handicapped by the 2.3% excise tax under Obamacare. Another customer might put together a motif assuming the continuation of Obamacare and include investments in hospitals, insurance exchanges, etc. that benefit from the additional millions of Americans insured under the act. If either of these motifs becomes popular, their creators could collect significant royalties.
