More Than 60 Organizations Worldwide to Benefit from Appirio's "Future of the Cloud Day" on July 2, 2015
SAN FRANCISCO, June 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- On Thursday, July 2, global cloud and crowdsourcing services provider Appirio will deploy more than 400 employees across the world to give back to a number of organizations close to employee's hearts as part of its 5th annual Future of the Cloud Day.
Future of the Cloud Day is an annual event during which the Appirio community comes together, both locally and globally, virtually and on-site, to support nonprofit organizations around the world.
This year beneficiary non-profit organizations include: the San Francisco Food Bank; St. James Food Pantry in Chicago; Dress for Success in Minnesota; City Rescue Mission in New York; Keep Indianapolis Beautiful; Clean Pathshala in India; Trussell Trust Foodbank Collection in London; Oxam Home Furniture Stores Clean-up in Dublin; and Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning, among others.
Employees will also be giving back virtually. This year Appirians will make handcrafted superhero capes for kids as a way to empower and bring a smile to children living in family shelters, in addition to designing and sending cards to hospitalized children across the United States.
Furthermore, Appirio is sponsoring a pro-bono virtual challenge for Code2040, a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization that supports underrepresented minorities by paving the way for educational, professional and entrepreneurial success in technology. Appirio's crowdsourcing community will compete to provide a solution to a problem that has been vexing the organization: creating an effective algorithm that matches available internships to interested students.
Future of the Cloud Day is part of Appirio's corporate responsibility program, Silver Lining, which was created to mobilize employees to make a measurable impact on the communities in which they work and live. Appirio launched Silver Lining in 2010, and has since donated over 20,000 hours, raised more than $475,000, and helped more than 400 nonprofits, including American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and the Second Harvest Food Bank.
"Every year Appirio employees take this time to give back," says Rachel Tallant, Director of Human Resources Programs at Appirio. "In just one day we achieve so much by working together as a group. Whether we're serving food in a homeless shelter, planting a tree in a park, or making a superhero cape for a kid, we're committed to helping the communities that Appirians know and love. Imagine what could be achieved if every business in the world took one day off to give back."
This year, Appirio's Silver Lining program officially incorporated the Pledge 1% model. Founded in 2014, the Pledge 1% model was created to inspire early stage corporate philanthropy.
