Moose Toys Unveils One-of-a-Kind Shopkins™ Character At Toy Fair
Made entirely out of crystal, the rare Shopkins character will be auctioned off for charity
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Moose Toys, one of the fastest-growing toy manufacturers in the U.S., and the maker of Shopkins, is gearing up for the upcoming launch of Shopkins Season Three. To celebrate the launch, Moose will reveal a priceless, one-of-a-kind character made entirely out of crystal. The crystal Shopkins character, named Gemma Stone, will be on display at the upcoming North American International Toy Fair in New York from February 14-17, 2015.
Following its appearance at Toy Fair, the crystal Shopkins will be auctioned off online later in the year. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Toy Industry Foundation, a nonprofit organization that distributes toys to undeserved, at-risk and homeless children around the world.
"The success of Shopkins in 2014 was extraordinary, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to use the success and escalating popularity of Shopkins to give back to the Toy Industry Foundation," said Paul Solomon, Co-CEO of Moose Toys. "We're excited to contribute to the great work that the Toy Industry Foundation does to give the gift of play to children in need."
Shopkins made a huge splash following its summer launch last year, flying off shelves to sell 65 million products worldwide. To keep up with high demand, over five million Shopkins characters are made every week. The brand has also attracted a strong online fan base, garnering 13 million views on Shopkins webisodes and over 400 million views on Shopkins fan videos. Limited Edition characters, normally retailing at $2.99, are selling upwards of $1,500 each on eBay. Shopkins is currently sold in over 50 countries globally, with similar success in those territories as well.
According to NPD, Shopkins smashed its way to the top as the number one new property in the Playset Themed Figurines/Accessories category for the month of December. Additionally, the Shopkins 12-Pack was the top selling item in Playset Themed/Figurines/Accessories category for the month of December, and the #5 item for the year.
The brand continues to grow with the launch of Season Three this fall. Over 140 new characters will join the Shopkins family, along with new playsets, including the brand new Scoops Ice-Cream Truck playset, which will be one of the feature lines in the range, and the perfect playground for old and new characters to come.
