MobiTV, Inc. and Crackle Announce Major Viewership Milestone
1 hour+ average viewing time shows mobile users crave movies
EMERYVILLE, Calif., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- MobiTV, Inc. today announced that user engagement of their popular Crackle Movies channel has reached a major milestone, coming in at three times MobiTV's average user viewing length. The channel from Crackle, Sony Pictures Entertainment's online video network, has been a top performer for the MobiTV application, and its high subscriber engagement and hour plus viewing sessions points to the interest mobile viewers have in watching movies on the go.
Based on successful consumer adoption, MobiTV and Crackle have agreed to expand their relationship to make Crackle Movies available to MobiTV subscribers across multiple carriers, with plans to bring this successful content to tablets in the near future.
MobiTV, Inc. has been offering Crackle's deep catalog of full-length blockbuster movies since 2007 through the SprintTV application, which is powered by MobiTV's end-to-end managed service platform. The Crackle Movies channel on the MobiTV application serves up new titles monthly, accruing hundreds of thousands of minutes of viewing.
"This expanded partnership aligns with the company's programming approach of bringing demanded content to multiple devices," said Joanne Waage, VP Strategic Partnerships at MobiTV, Inc. "Consumers want access to the content they enjoy wherever they are, on the device they have, and that includes full-length movies."
"We are thrilled that MobiTV's users have found Crackle so engaging, and look forward to working with MobiTV to further expand Crackle's reach to additional carriers and devices," said Eric Berger, Sony Picture Television's Senior Vice President, Digital Networks.
Continued innovations on the MobiTV Accelerated Media Platform bring new functionality to this experience. MobiTV's DRM technology enables users to download and temporarily store content locally on their device for offline playback, allowing users to enjoy viewing wherever they want.
This expansion marks the first time MobiTV, Inc. is providing movie content across multiple carriers to its millions of managed subscribers.
