MMIS Announces Global Integration at Global Transparency Reporting Congress
MediSpend and MobileXpense SaaS Solution Ensures Travel/Expense Management and Regulatory Compliance for Global Life Science Companies
PORTSMOUTH, N.H., April 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Michaeline Daboul, President & CEO of MMIS, Inc., announced the global integration of MediSpend® at CBI's 3rd Global Transparency Reporting Congress in Brussels, Belgium. The integration of these industry-leading products provides global Life Science companies with a unified end-to-end solution to track and manage travel and expenses, manage physician relationships, and ensure regulatory compliance with the Physician Payments Sunshine Act set forth at Section 6002 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, as well as European Regulations and industry Codes of Conduct.
MobileXpense is a recognized global leader in Travel and Expense Management solutions, supporting customers in over 60 countries and 20 languages worldwide. In order to meet the compliance requirements of Life Science companies, MobileXpense has developed a set of specific functions to enable employees to capture and control spend data and physician information in accordance with specific regulatory requirements while seamlessly integrating with the MediSpend® platform.
"Governments around the world understand the important role transparency plays in protecting patients and eliminating fraud and waste in public health systems. That's why we've seen such a rapid increase in transparency globally," Ms. Daboul stated. "As more countries join the United States to increase transparency between healthcare providers and industry, it is critical for Life Science companies to develop business processes and systems to satisfy compliance requirements across their worldwide operating entities. We've selected MobileXpense as our 'global expense' partner due to the flexibility, ease of configuration and use of their SaaS expense solution; as well as their capacity to support a tax compliant solution in all their markets. The integration of MediSpend® will make the aggregation, tracking, and reporting of health care provider and health care organization relationships easy, efficient, and affordable for companies with global operations," said Daboul.
The United States is a prime example of the global push toward increased health care data transparency. Regulations in the US require pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers to aggregate and report certain payments and transfers of value over $10 made to physicians and teaching hospitals. Manufacturers must begin collecting data on August 1, 2013 and report the data to the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) on or before March 31, 2014 and each year thereafter. CMS will make this data available to the public via a searchable website on September 30, 2014 (and on June 30th each subsequent year).
