Mitchell & Ness Releases Limited Edition 1994 - 95 Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls Jersey
Nation's Leading Nostalgia Co. Releases For The First Time Bulls Jersey Number 45
PHILADELPHIA, April 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, April 8th, 2016 Mitchell & Ness as part of their ongoing partnership with Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand, will release Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls number 45 home jersey. Retailing at $300, the release celebrates the return of Jordan to the United Center in 1995, wearing the number he also wore while playing for minor league baseball team the Birmingham Barons. Jordan would go on to wear the number 45 for 22 games until game two of the 1995 Eastern Conference Semi-finals. Jordan was fined $25K per game for a total of $100K that he did not in fact wear the number 45 during the remainder of the 1994-95 season.
Jonathan Yuska, Head of Mitchell & Ness, comments, "Michael Jordan's return to the United Center in Chicago on March 24, 1995 is a proud moment for Chicago Bulls fans. We hope this release has the same impact on basketball fans worldwide as the red away #45 jersey did in 2015. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to produce such an iconic jersey to commemorate a historic moment for fans of the game."
On March 24, 1995, Michael Jordan returned to the United Center for his first home game in nearly two years against the Orlando Magic, who took the victory 106-99. Jordan recorded 21pts, 8asts, 4rebs, 5stls, and 2blks in his third game overall back to the NBA. The majority of his offensive plays involved driving to the basket versus shooting jump shots from near the perimeter. During his postgame press conference he mentioned that he was still working on getting his rhythm together as well as getting accustomed to playing high minutes again.
The story of the number 45 lies in the fact that this was Jordan's high school basketball and baseball jersey number until he began playing varsity with his older brother, Larry, who donned the same digits. He then decided to take half of the number and round up to what would become the most legendary basketball number (23) in the history of the sport of basketball. Here's a quote from Jordan regarding his admiration for his older brother's basketball skills and jumping ability:
"When you say 'Air Jordan,' I'm number two, he's one." – Michael Jordan, 1987
