MISO Annual Meeting Tackles Energy Challenges
Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels Thanks MISO, Members for Value Delivered
INDIANAPOLIS, April 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- MISO, the regional transmission organization that ensures electric reliability across 13 U.S. states and the Canadian province of Manitoba, welcomed Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels today as the keynote speaker for MISO's annual stakeholders' meeting in Indianapolis.
Gov. Daniels thanked MISO and its members for their leadership in electric reliability, calling MISO a metaphor for the state's outlook on energy. "We are very grateful every day that MISO and its friends are here. You are the hidden gem of our economy."
MISO's annual meeting brings together hundred of electric industry leaders, utility executives and state regulators from the 13 states and Canadian province of Manitoba that participate in the electric grid operator. Participants addressed how to meet challenges facing the industry such as an aging base load fleet, potential environmental regulation and/or legislation, renewable energy policy and more efficient management of demand and supply resources.
"We come together with a shared goal of finding innovative ways to unlock the value that a smarter, more efficient grid brings to all energy users – from battery storage to the exciting potential of electric cars to becoming early adopters of technology to ensure even more efficient, reliable management of our transmission infrastructure," said John R. Bear, President and Chief Executive Officer of Midwest ISO.
"We welcome the governor's support for the value that MISO and its members bring to the region we serve and will continue to look for ways to optimize the value we deliver every day," added Bear.
Attendees at the conference included utility executives from MISO's Indiana members: Duke, IMPA, Indianapolis Power & Light, Hoosier Energy, NIPSCO, Wabash Valley Power Association and Vectren.
