Millennial Shows Perseverance As He Lands Deal on Shark Tank With Mark Cuban, Alex Rodriguez and Lori Greiner
BARRINGTON, Ill., Jan. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Martin Dimitrov. INCubatoredu High School Alumni, took the next step in moving his company, SnapClips, forward after striking a deal with Mark Cuban, Alex Rodriguez and Lori Greiner on Sunday night's Shark Tank episode. SnapClips was a success on the show earning $150,000 investment dollars from the three Sharks that will hold a 30% investment in the company.
"We are very proud of Martin's accomplishments as an entrepreneur as demonstrated by his most recent success on Shark Tank," said Christine Scott, INCubatoredu Executive Director. "This is an exciting time for SnapClips. We are thrilled the INCubatoredu program served as a springboard and inspiration for his business."
Martin showed incredible drive and passion for the company he created four years ago from the initial stages in the INCubatoredu class to his Shark Tank appearance. The road was not always smooth, but working with his business mentors in the class and following the steps set forth in the INCubatoredu entrepreneurship curriculum, the business concept went from idea to reality. Martin is an excellent example of a success story for Millennials starting their own businesses. Since the inception of the idea SnapClips has:
- Secured a U.S. Utility Patent
- Delivered 800+ pairs of SnapClips to over 15 countries
- Attracted the attention of various fitness influencers such as professional bodybuilders and CrossFit athletes
- Solved a problem athletes face on a daily basis
It was an 18 month development process after Martin was originally tasked by his teacher to come up a with a solution to a problem he faced every day. As a student athlete who used the Wheeling, IL High School's weight-lifting equipment daily, Martin was frustrated that the barbell metal clips were often broken, difficult to use and ineffective as the weights would fall off. Martin's idea was to develop a weight collar, similar to the slap bracelets of the '90s, which was more effective and easier to use than the metal clips on the market. Through many prototypes, his resilience and resolve, he solved this functional problem by creating a unique product and SnapClips was formed.
"The teens in the INCubatoredu class learn a process which encourages perseverance through disappointments and setbacks adapting their original idea as they move through the development," said Margarita Geleske, INCubatoredu Chief Evangelist. "Business coaches and mentors assist and encourage the teams through developing a hypotheses about a business concept, testing the hypotheses, adapting and further iteration."
The INCubatoredu curriculum not only teaches high school students skills necessary to develop and create a successful business but also skills necessary for a successful life. Students learn life changing concepts such as how to think creatively, solve complex problems and be resilient in the face of failure. These skills insure success in all aspects of their lives going forward. And in the case of Martin Dimitrov, and many others, the possibilities are endless.
INCubatoredu is an entrepreneurship program by Uncharted Learning, a 501(c)3, not for profit organization. The mission is to bring authentic, rigorous, and experiential education to students to foster development of real-world skills.
