Military Child Education Coalition Offers New Professional Development Course Aimed at Serving Children of Veterans
Supporting Veterans' Children Through Transitions™ will teach youth-serving professionals, educators, and parents unique transition issues Veterans' children face.
HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas, May 16, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Military Child Education Coalition® (MCEC), through a grant from the Bob Woodruff Foundation, has developed a six-hour course designed to address the challenges children face when a parent(s) transitions from military to civilian life. On average, 22,000 service members per month are transitioning out of the military. When a parent transitions, so do the children. MCEC recognized the impact transitions have on military-connected children and developed resources to help veterans and their families.
The new course, Supporting Veterans' Children Through Transitions™, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foWq38YaTvU, will explore the academic, social, and emotional implications for children and youth when their parents voluntarily or involuntarily transition from military to civilian life. The course also identifies needs of military-connected children whose parents have died, been wounded, or experienced combat-related illnesses. Together, participants will discover resources and integrate positive strategies to support veterans' children.
"This class really made me aware of the different types of situations that can turn someone from being active military to being a Veteran," shared a participant.
Participants who complete this course are eligible for 6 clock hours of Continuing Education Credits (CEUs).
