Midwest Research Institute Wins U.S. Defense Department Contract
KANSAS CITY, Mo., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Midwest Research Institute (MRI) has been awarded a U.S. Department of Defense contract to provide CBRNE—chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive—support services. CBRNE expertise is vital to national defense against chemical and biological warfare and terrorism.
"Federal agencies have entrusted Midwest Research Institute to provide CBRNE expertise since our founding in 1944," said Michael F. Helmstetter, Ph.D., MRI President and CEO. "MRI is honored to assist the nation in protecting human lives and guarding our country against attack."
MRI's contract is one of multiple awards made with an aggregate value of $485 million. Under this contract with the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, MRI will support Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC) and other defense customers with CBRNE support services at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. MRI offers ECBC and other CBRNE stakeholders a large number of corporate-established facilities and resources to support engineering, fabrication, test and laboratory programs through a five-year Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Omnibus contract. Through this contract, MRI will provide project management as well as research, development, acquisition, and sustainment support services.
Headquartered in Maryland, ECBC is the nation's principal research and development center for chemical and biological warfare agent defense technology, engineering and field operations. ECBC has achieved major technological advances for the warfighter and for U.S. national defense, with a long and distinguished history of providing the Armed Forces with quality systems and outstanding customer service. ECBC is a US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command laboratory.
"This contract is a reflection of the tremendous growth underway at MRI," said Helmstetter. "An award such as this demonstrates that our sixty-six year track record of proven results, and our state-of-the art skills and technologies, have become invaluable in the defense industry."
