To be eligible to receive course credit, students entering grades 9-12 must successfully fulfill the course completion criteria and meet language proficiency requirements. Credit will be issued through Middlebury Interactive Languages, fully accredited by NWAC. NWAC works under a reciprocity agreement with the other accreditation institutions across the country. A transcript granting the credit will be issued following the summer program; those wishing to apply MMLA credits to high school graduation should confirm that their institution's credit transfer policy will accommodate this.
MMLA, based on the Middlebury College Language Schools' nearly 100 years of experience in language immersion methodology, is an intensive four-week, residency summer language program for college-bound students in grades 8-12. This year, MMLA runs from June 26 to July 23, at some of the most renowned colleges across the country, including:

MMLA was founded in 2008 as a collaboration between the Language Schools of Middlebury College and the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, Calif., a graduate school of Middlebury College. The program provides the experience of living in another culture with the added benefit of staying close to home in a safe and education-focused environment. Students who enroll in the course will spend more than 240 hours learning and using the language—the equivalent of more than a year in a regular classroom setting. This unique MMLA immersion process usually helps students advance one year of study in just four weeks, and helps students gain confidence while forming strong friendships.
Each students will be exposed not only to classroom training in language skills, but also cultural and recreational activities, and will adhere to a strict 'no English' language pledge. They will also enjoy a low student-to-teacher ratio of less than 10 to 1; last year, approximately 800 students participated in the program, under the guidance of nearly 300 faculty and staff members. Students still have the opportunity to participate in this year's MMLA program, with enrollment extended through June 10.
"High school credit perfectly aligns with our mission to offer students the opportunity to gain increasingly important world language proficiency skill, give them a competitive edge in the college application process, and foster advancement in all areas of learning to prepare them for future careers," said Kevin Conroy, director of the Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy.
