New Jersey residents who hardly drive finally have an option to spend a lot less on car insurance with Metromile
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- According to the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey, commuting trends in New Jersey show an increase in residents commuting via public transit and a slowdown in driving. This is not surprising given that New Jersey is the fifth most expensive state to own a car, and part of that reason is the high insurance New Jersey residents face. Today, however, Metromile announced the introduction of the state's first and only pay-per-mile car insurance model to New Jersey drivers, a solution that saves the typical customer nearly $500 annually.
Additionally, Metromile shares smart technology offerings via the Metromile App that quantify the nuts and bolts of daily driving, providing useful insights and notifications to give drivers greater visibility into their cars' general health and usage, all part of the insurance carrier's greater mission to empower drivers through a more informed car ownership experience.
"At Metromile, we believe that people who hardly drive should hardly pay for car insurance," said Dan Preston, CEO of Metromile. "Living in New Jersey is expensive, but, for low-mileage drivers, high-priced car insurance will be a thing of the past as they will see significant savings with Metromile's pay-per-mile model."
Metromile offers transparent billing based on a monthly base rate and the miles residents actually drive through its cutting-edge technology. But the connected technology doesn't just apply to miles driven– Metromile is responding to the driver's desire for a smarter driving experience and has an innovative approach to an industry that has remained stagnant for many years. Pay-per-mile car insurance customers will receive the Metromile Pulse, a device that connects to the car's onboard diagnostic (OBD-II) port and wirelessly transmits data to the Metromile smart driving app. From the app, drivers can then access insights to personalized driving trends and diagnostics – providing a more informed and connected experience. Those not ready to switch insurance providers can access the Metromile App in beta and receive many of the same features that insurance customers enjoy.
New Jersey marks the third state on the East Coast where Metromile's per-mile insurance is offered, and joins California, Illinois, Washington, Oregon, Virginia and Pennsylvania. Policies are sold through Metromile Insurance Services LLC and are underwritten by insurers in the National General Insurance Group.
