SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sixty-five percent of US drivers are overpaying for car insurance. This is the message that Metromile, the pioneer in pay-per-mile car insurance, is delivering with the launch of its new advertising campaign, "We're not trying to (beep!) you."
The new series pokes fun at old-school car insurance by using over-the-top depictions including a car insurance "hotline" representative, a greedy car insurance agent and even the mail guy in the basement, reminding drivers that they're getting (beeped!), even if they don't drive very much. Metromile's pay-per-mile insurance, on the other hand, is a much more affordable and fair choice for low-mileage drivers.
"In a connected economy a one size fits all approach to pricing is neither relevant nor fair," said Raquel Rozas, Head of Brand at Metromile. "Metromile is the exception. With pay-per-mile, if you drive less, you pay less because the cost to carry insurance is based on how many miles you drive. Our goal with this campaign is to raise awareness amongst low mileage drivers that there's a better and more fair way to do insurance."
Metromile partnered with The Annex, a culture-driven advertising agency with a focus on the millennial market, to tap into the urban millennial mindset and to create a campaign that educates these drivers that pay-per-mile is the right fit for their lifestyle.
"Many people, especially urban millennials, are getting screwed by car insurance companies," said Drew Donatelle, executive creative director of The Annex. "So we created a campaign with a message that will resonate with everybody – don't get (beeped!) by your insurance company. It's clear, simple and hilarious."
The ads point out examples of low-mileage driving habits such as the person that "only drives their car twice a week". They use humor to convey that old insurance companies built a business overcharging low mileage drivers to subsidize these high mileage customers, in essence "doubling your rate on a car you barely drive."
Metromile built pay-per-mile insurance from the ground up, focused on the idea that people that drive less, really should pay less for car insurance. Metromile saves low mileage drivers $500 on average each year.
In addition to affordable and fair car insurance, Metromile's smart driving app and in-car telematics device help customers pinpoint their car's exact location via the vehicle locator, keep their car in tip top shape with vehicle diagnostics, car health and access to the company's in-house mechanic, as well as avoid parking tickets via the app's street sweeping alerts feature (in select cities). Metromile's pay-per-mile insurance is available in seven states including Calif., Ill., N.J., Ore., Pa., Va., and Wash. The company has rapid state expansion plans in the coming year.
Metromile's new ad campaign can be seen on YouTube, Facebook and a variety of other places online. For more information about Metromile, visit metromile.com, call 888-761-906, or follow Metromile on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
