Merida Johns, PhD, RHIA named Director of the Health Informatics and Information Management Program at Resurrection University Chicago

"Merida joins us at a pivotal point in our growth. Her leadership and extensive experience in Health Information Management will assist us in elevating the HIIM program to the next level. Additionally, her background in educational reform strategies, research for national accreditation and budget preparation and administration will prove invaluable as we continue to fulfill our vision," said Resurrection University President Therese A. Scanlan, EdD.

Dr. Johns most recently founded The Monarch Center for Women's Leadership Development, an organization that helps empower women in fulfilling their leadership and economic potential. Prior to joining Resurrection University, she was a tenured faculty member at The Ohio State University, School of Allied Health and at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Health Services Administration, where she was the founding director of the Masters in Health Informatics program. Johns has served in a variety of visiting and adjunct professor positions at Loyola University Chicago, The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota, and at University of Illinois at Chicago's School of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences.

An accomplished leader in higher education and prolific author in her field, some of her most well-known published works include Enterprise Information Management and Data Governance and Health Information Technology:  An Applied Approach.  Johns is an innovative expert in health informatics and information management and a decades-long advocate for leadership amongst women. She has served as President of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and has received numerous honors, including the AHIMA Professional Achievement Award, the AHIMA Champion Award and the AHIMA Distinguished Member Award, the association's highest membership honor.  

Johns obtained two Bachelor's degrees from Seattle University, a Master's degree from Alfred University and her PhD from The Ohio State University.
