MediaCom USA Enlists Thomas Rocco To Lead Subway Business
Industry veteran becomes managing partner and group account director
NEW YORK, Sept. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MediaCom USA announced today that it has hired Thomas Rocco to lead Subway, one of its most iconic accounts.
Rocco joins MediaCom during a time of prodigious growth, represented by the recent addition of eBay and DSW to its client roster and the onboarding of several world-class executives, including Archana Kumar (chief strategy officer), Steve Carbone (chief digital and analytics officer), Mark Fortner (head of innovation) and Khartoon Ohan (chief growth officer).
"As the Content and Connections Agency, it's vital that MediaCom's leaders are able to bridge the divide between art and science, helping clients build the most productive, consumer-friendly and seamless communications systems," said Sasha Savic, CEO of MediaCom USA. "Thomas has done this many times over and brings a diverse career marked by forward-thinking leadership and creative insight. His talent, wisdom and expertise make him the perfect person to drive success for Subway, one of our most valuable and exciting client relationships."
Rocco comes to MediaCom from Omnicom, where he was EVP of business development at Alcone Marketing and, prior to that, president and CEO for Singer Direct (eventually merging it with Novus Media) and the Managing Director of Sales for the Omnicom Media Group. His client experience ranges from PepsiCo, Anheuser Busch, Wendy's and Coca-Cola to Gunthy-Renker, General Motors, Dish and Microsoft.
Before moving to the agency side, Rocco led a 25% increase in revenue as the president of CTN Media – operator of the College Television Network – before its sale to Viacom and re-branding as MTVU, and worked at Discovery Networks, where he developed the direct response and paid programming division responsible for $200 million in revenue after just five years, in addition to heading up their regional sales operation.
"Tom has a great deal of experience that will help us develop new media approaches and maximize traditional media to the benefit of the business and our brand," said Tony Pace, Subway's chief marketing officer. "We look forward to his real-time strategic contributions to our retail business."
