Media Alert: How to Prepare for and Thrive in Retirement
Expert Sources Available for National Retirement Planning Week, April 7-11
BRYN MAWR, Pa., April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- National Retirement Planning Week, April 7-11, is a national effort to help consumers focus and plan around their financial needs in retirement. In preparation of this week, The American College of Financial Services can offer three distinguished professors with deep knowledge about retirement based on their work and development of the Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP), an innovative and forward-thinking designation that is entirely focused on the issue of how Americans can generate secure lifetime income and deal with a lengthy retirement.
Why: Americans are facing a retirement crisis. In fact, an estimated 7,000 Baby Boomers will reach age 65 every day for the next 17 years. Coupled with the fact that people are living longer, there's a need for smart advice on how to turn consumers' nest eggs into something they can live on for 30 or more years in many cases.
Who: Wade Pfau is available as an expert source on all aspects of retirement income, including new ways to think about safe withdrawal rates and how a rising equity glidepath can help reduce retirement risk, which is contrary to the conventional wisdom that equity exposure should decrease throughout retirement as the retiree's time horizon (and life expectancy) shrinks and mortality looms.
He is a Professor of Retirement Income in the Ph.D. program for Financial and Retirement Planning at The American College, holds a doctorate in economics from Princeton University, and has published research on retirement planning in a wide variety of academic and practitioner research journals. He is also an active blogger on retirement research.
Jamie Hopkins can speak to the ways Americans can improve their retirement security, including how consumers should look at long term care insurance and uncertain life expectancy, why they should consider a digital estate plan, and how MyRAs work.
He is the Associate Director of The American College's Center for Retirement Income, helped develop the Retirement Income Certified Professional® (RICP) designation, a program focused on the issue of how Americans can generate secure lifetime income and deal with a lengthy retirement.
Dave Littell can provide actionable advice on ways to maximize Social Security benefits, the misconceptions about the security of employer sponsored benefits, and the unique challenges that women face in retirement.
Dave has developed a new 'Managing Retirement Risks' table, which goes beyond making sure the foundation of a retirement income plan is in place to evaluate 18 risks that retirees face but may not be thinking about. In addition to defining these risks, he offers a wide range of possible solutions (table available upon request).
He is the RICP Retirement Income Program Director at The American College, is the co-creator of the RICP® designation and has co-authored several books associated with The American College's courses.
When: Professor Pfau, Professor Hopkins and Professor Littell are available for interviews beginning today. Please contact Emma Post or Hayley Milbourn for more information or to discuss scheduling.
